How Small Businesses Can Scale Without Losing Their Soul
As the founder of a successful law firm that’s grown to over 200 employees and $65 million in revenue, I’ve learned some invaluable lessons about building a business, staying true to your values, and creating a lasting legacy. Here’s what I’ve discovered on my journey from struggling entrepreneur to industry leader.
At 52, with a thriving practice and plans for national expansion, you might think I’m ready to cash out and retire. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. My goal has never been about the money – it’s about serving people more, bigger, and better.
We’ve just opened an office in New York, and I see potential for growth across the country. But more than that, I’m driven by a desire to help others, particularly immigrants and aspiring entrepreneurs. This sense of purpose keeps me energized and focused on the future.

While I’m not planning to retire anytime soon, I am thinking about the future. My focus now is on building an executive suite that can run the firm without me. This involves developing leaders within the organization who can carry the vision forward.
I’m also expanding beyond the law firm. We’re building a training center in Miami to share knowledge with entrepreneurs and solopreneurs. My goal is to help first-generation immigrants start and grow businesses, aligning with my faith-driven mission to serve this community.

One of the most painful aspects of scaling a business can be the strain it puts on relationships. As you grow, you may find that friendships become complicated by business dynamics. It’s not uncommon to feel betrayed by those you thought were close friends.
These challenges can make you question whether it’s all worth it. In these moments, having a strong foundation in your faith and your marriage becomes crucial.
